Tour Overview – 8 days vacations

SHORT ROUTE DESCRIPTION :

Day 1: Arrival Athens airport and transfer to the hotel. Introductions over dinner at a typical Greek traditional food and wine to the old city of Acropolis.

Day 2: Athens – Elatou (285 km)
The  region of Nafpaktia is the perfect playground to warm up our bikes on the first riding day. Along the “Nafpaktia Road” we head towards Athens to visit the world famous Delfi and have a coffee and snacks at Arvanitsa , between the alp forest.

Day 3: Elatou – Zagorohoria (310 km)
 The most famous port and villages are on the road to the   National Park of Vikos and the one of the highest mountain in Greece, Pindos. We will have a driving and nature experience of a special kind of lakes and rivers
At the end of this day of superior riding experience we reach Aristi, in the center (Gamila) Pindos located in the North Greece. Aristi is a gorgeous traditional Epirus village, where findings from the Paleolithic period have been discovered. The “Stamatis Mansion” is an exceptional sample of the local architecture. The Monastery of Panagia Spileotisas (16th century), built in a beautiful location near the banks of the Voidomatis river. “Kastraki”, with its panoramic view, contains ancient findings. The route at “Kagelia” from the Voidomatis bridge towards Papigo, is charming.

Day 4: Zagorochoria – Zagorochoria (150 km)
The National Park of the Vikos is one of the most famous riding spots in  Pindos with the most importants old bridges the beauty of nature.  We cross the deapest gorge  in Europe, VIKOS . A cluster of 48 traditional picturesque villages (Epirus), built amphitheatrically in the wider area of Timfi, Pindos and Mitiskeli (Zagori region). Zagori’s natural environment is exquisite and perfect for many outdoor activities. The local architecture is defined by stone, wood and slate rock. The name “Zagori” is Slavic and means “beyond the mountains”Kipi. A traditional village which is extremely popular with fans of alternative tourism and mountain sports. It is built in the centre of Zagori (altitude 800 m). The rivers Vikakis and Bagiotikos have wonderful single and triple arch stone bridges.

Day 5: Zagorochoria – Meteora (240 km)
Today we ride to Vovousa. A traditional village (altitude 1,000 m) traversed by the Aoos river and built in a lush location containing rare animals and plants. The stone arched bridge dates back to 1748. Vovousa is very near the national park of Pindos (Valia Kalda) . We continue to Meteora who is the biggest and most important group of monasteries in Greece after those in Mount Athos. We can locate the first traces of their history from 11th c. when the first hermits settled there. The rock monasteries have been characterized by UNESCO as a unique phenomenon of cultural heritage and they form one of the most important stations of cultural map of Greece.

Day 6 : Meteora to Meteora (175 km)

Early in the morning we visit one of the most famous monastery ,the  Holy Monastery of St. Stephen. It is one of the most attainable as we don’t have to cope with innumerable stairs to reach it. The small single-nave church of St. Stephen was built in the middle of 16th and decorated in 1545 or a little later.  The old refectory of the convent is used as a museum nowadays. After we make a tour to waterfall of Palaiokaria , through the mountains return to Meteora.

Day 7 : Meteora to Karpenisi (210 km)

An artificial paradise for every season of the year
We ride to Lake Plastiras, also known as «Little Switzerland«, is surrounded by an idyllic landscape of incomparable natural beauty that captivates the mind at first sight. Dreamlike in all aspects, it is one of the largest artificial lakes in Greece created in a location where in antiquity we could find the confluence of the rivers Tavropos and Achelous.It is a natural wonder that owes its existence to the inspired vision of General Nikolaos Plastiras (rightfully named after him) to create an impressive dam that would reinvigorate the entire region. Lake Plastira located in the wider area of Agrafa, lives every season at its fullest, promising to offer you the holiday you dreamed of. We have a snack of trout (traditional alive fish from river near the  lake ), through Velouhi Pass ,within a short distance lies traditionally built Koryschades village where there is a very interesting Museum of National Resistance.

Day 8 : Karpenisi – Athens (290 km)

Leaving behind the Karpenisi, follow an amazing route through Levadia to Athens.

We have a farewell dinner down town of Acropolis .
